wise self improvement | self improvement made easy: Most Leaders ...

There is an example of leadership here which should make us be willing now and again to take risks. In this scenario the risk worked and the risk was worth any criticism which might have been forthcoming from certain section of the community. Most leaders who take risks run the risk of being criticised!

Following a lengthy teaching session on these slopes at the north west corner of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus Christ comes down, and is approached by a man full of leprosy.

Leprosy in the Bible is frequently regarded as a sign of sin, and not many see themselves as covered in sin. It is a most interesting concept and it is a matter which many leaders are unaware of in these present days, but it harms businesses and relationships and friendships.

This man would experience isolation and ostracism, as well as pain and a lack of physical feelings.

Sin separates us from God and from one another.

Leprosy is not easy to diagnose at first, and that too is similar to sin which works away silently and destructively.

Leprosy can paralyse feelings and remove any sensitivity. So does sin. There is behaviour in certain areas of business life which, if discovered and found out, many would be embarrassed and ashamed. But, is this not happening as the actions of various business leaders are exposed and brought out into the open.

He is desperate, and comes asking Jesus for help. Jesus loves when desperate people come to him.

He fell at Jesus' feet. How undignified! There are situations in which we find ourselves when we might have to be willing to appear undignified. Going through a court battle because of specific sin with all the media attention holds very little dignity as integrity hit a new low.

"If you are willing, you can make me clean" was his sincere pleading request. This man believed that Jesus could deal with his problem.

Jesus reached out his hand and touched what was not supposed to be touched. He could not overlook such an impassioned plea.

When necessary, Jesus would sweep aside religiousy regulations which might hinder any real help being given.

He asked to be cleansed. 'Healed' is not used.

Jesus cleansed him of this appalling disease.

What a thrill must have gone through that man's heart when he saw his predicament had been dealt with.

We read that following this miracle Jesus withdrew to pray. He did not want to become simply a 'healer'.

He could have healed bodies on a superficial level, but he had come to rescue people from their sins.

Similarly, the early Church refused to become a humanitarian agency, as her prime purpose.

Wise leadership made prayer and the Word of God their priority. The leadership were prepared to make such a decision because they were aware of the consequences if this crucial decision were to be sidestepped or compromised. This applies in virtually every walk of life, and wise leaders will learn these simple but profound lessons, before it is too late.

Argentine court upholds freeze on Chevron assets

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) ? An attempt by Chevron Corp. to unfreeze its assets was dismissed Wednesday by an appeals court in Argentina, where the winners of a $19 billion environmental judgment in Ecuador are suing to force the oil company to pay.

Plaintiffs' attorney Pablo Fajardo told The Associated Press that the court refused to lift an embargo that a lower-court judge imposed in November in the case, which involves oil contamination left after Texaco Corp. pulled out of the Amazon decades ago. Chevron later bought Texaco and inherited the problem.

"Chevron respectfully disagrees with the court's decision" and will pursue all available legal remedies to reverse the interim measure, spokesman Kurt Glaubitz said.

Chevron has no assets in Ecuador, so the plaintiffs have filed suits in Canada, Brazil and Argentina.

Chevron has refused to pay, saying that if the accusations had been legitimate, the plaintiffs would be seeking relief in the United States, where the company is headquartered.

Each side has accused the other of committing fraud during the long judicial process, which began in the United States but moved to Ecuador with Chevron's consent at a time when the country was led by interests more sympathetic to foreign oil companies than its current president, leftist Rafael Correa.

All Critics (71) | Top Critics (18) | Fresh (68) | Rotten (3)

Happy, sad, inspiring, infuriating, right and terribly wrong, all at the same time.

Berg's film is as much an indictment of the state of Arkansas' legal system as it is the prosecution.

Berg's film helps illuminate a case that should certainly be the shame of the state of Arkansas, and perhaps the criminal justice system of the entire United States.

Dubious evidence; suspicious confessions; conveniently located "poor white trash" (Echols' words) to take the rap: The case stank from the beginning, Berg's film argues.

Less an investigative report than a portrait of the community that forms around an ongoing court case, this conveys a patient understanding of the intricacies of law and human behavior that may be termed Kieslowskian.

"West of Memphis" is the fourth film about one of the most heinous cases of wrongful conviction in American judicial history. Do we need a fourth film? Yes, I think we do.

A frankly extraordinary document about the three innocent children who were murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas and the three innocent teenagers who spent 18 years in prison for the crime.

(Director Amy) Berg's doc is gripping, often infuriating, but in the end hopeful about the ability of truth and innocence to prevail thanks to the efforts of those who strive against all obstacles to uphold them.

The new film is largely a recap of the older ones, with more celebrity testimonials and fewer Metallica songs but little fresh insight into the miscarriage of justice it chronicles.

Extols the efforts of celebrities to win the release of three innocent men [and is] suspenseful when it's straightforward-the best CSI investigation that money can buy.

Nearly overwhelms you with hopelessness, if not an adrenaline rush of rage - even if you're familiar with the case.

It's a beautifully done piece of work in its own right, yet viewed beside the trilogy which preceded it, it comes across a bit like "Paradise Lost 3b - the Celebrity Edition."

A whodunit in which truth devastatingly becomes a luxury.

New evidence and a fresh perspective keep the subject matter compelling.

Filmmaker Amy Berg (Oscar nominated Deliver Us From Evil) has once again struck documentary gold with her hard-hitting journalistic feature, West of Memphis.

A lot of it is treading on ground that's been laid by other people, but there's a lot of great new stuff, too.

The infuriating facts in this famous case are illuminated with new human detail.

Flee ?Safe? Sovereign Debt, Says Hasenstab

Franklin recently became the largest private holder of Irish sovereign bonds with almost a tenth of the market, raising fears that prices would tumble as soon as he stopped buying. This month, however, Ireland sold 2.5 billion euros of five-year bonds paying 3.3 per cent, a sign of relative financial health. There was 7 billion euros worth of demand, with 90 per cent of the buyers coming from outside the US.

"This recent access to the market I think finally closed the door on a lot of the naysayers," says Mr Hasenstab.

Some investors are less sanguine. Myles Bradshaw, a portfolio manager at Pimco, says that Spanish bonds offer better value. "Getting the budget deficit down now depends on growth, but it's a small, open economy that needs global growth to pick up, and I can't really see that. So Ireland will need more austerity and I think that will be difficult to implement."

Mr Hasenstab says that his exposure to emerging markets means that he is already exposed to countries such as Spain and Italy, even if he does not own their bonds directly, due to the consequences of another crisis.

"If there's a tidal wave coming from a credit event in Italy, then it doesn't matter how great your thesis is on Malaysia, the ringgit's going to get blown up," he says.

But while Mr Hasenstab forecasts recession for Europe, he still thinks it will hold together, and is more upbeat about the global economy as the effects of quantitative easing by central banks in the developed world are exported to emerging markets.

Indeed, he remains patiently optimistic on one of the other great investment debates of the moment. "There's a lot of perma bears on China who believe that everything there is a Ponzi scheme and it's all artificial. I don't believe that."

He argues that overbuilding in China has helped the country avoid bottlenecks. "Brazil tops out at 4.5 per cent growth because they don't have the infrastructure, such as the roads, the rail systems necessary to grow faster without overheating.

"Were some developments, toll roads, or railroads built that shouldn't have been built? Sure, but I think that's not seeing the forest through the trees. Our sense is they will grow into that infrastructure over the next 10 years," he says.

That belief, he says, is a combination of the big macro themes, with the informed local knowledge behind such bets as Ireland, or Hungary when they are hated by the market. "Really, you can only do so much behind a Bloomberg screen."

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Family to Include Another 2560?1600 Tablet

galaxy-tab-3

Samsung and Google came up with the first ultra high 2560?1600 resolution tablet, the Nexus 10, which put it at an exact 300 PPI pixel density. While most manufacturers still seem to be stuck on the 1920?1200 resolution (except Vizio), Samsung will be offering another such high-resolution tablet this year, as part of the Galaxy Tab 3 family.

Considering Samsung?s latest trend of putting the S-pen into all their high-end, and even mid-end, devices, I assume this tablet might be the next-gen Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. But that may not arrive for a while (late summer or so), and it?s possible Samsung wants to launch another such high-resolution tablet soon, that isn?t the next-gen Note 10.1 per se.

The codename for this tablet is?GT-P8200, and there are other 2 other tablets with the names?GT-P3200 and GT-P5200. The other two are presumably a 7? tablet with a 1024?600 resolution, and an 8? tablet with a 1280?800 resolution, which is probably the Galaxy Tab 8.0, which I?ve already said has a pretty low resolution for 2013, and given its rumored price.

The 10? tablet seems to only have the Exynos 5 Dual processor we?ve seen in Nexus 10, and I suppose for a spring release, it?s not too bad, if it maintains the same price, too. Think of it of a Nexus 10 that gets S-pen support, and all the S-pen enabled apps ? although without stock Android, and probably fewer updates as well.

I like Samsung?s strategy of adding an S-pen to more and more of their devices. That should only expand the S-pen ecosystem for drawing apps and productivity apps that require handwriting recognition. I wish Google would?ve taken charge of this with stock Android, but they are not, so Samsung remains the next best thing for now. You do however remain a bit locked into their ecosystem if you want many drawing apps with good active pen support.

What I don?t like so much about these 3 upcoming tablets, is that they don?t feel very exciting overall. They seem more like filler devices for the spring season, with the now old Galaxy S3 design, and with the same specs from last year. We might have to wait until the 2nd half of the year for the true ?next-gen? devices with Exynos 5 Octa processors, and higher resolutions (for the lower-end devices).

US challenges deal to merge Budweiser and Corona

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Justice Department is challenging Anheuser-Busch InBev's proposed $20.1 billion purchase of Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo, which would unite the ownership of popular beers like Budweiser and Corona.

The government says the deal would substantially reduce competition in the U.S. beer market, particularly in 26 metropolitan areas.

Americans spent at least $80 billion on beer last year. ABI's Bud Light is the best-selling beer in the nation and Modelo's Corona Extra is the best-selling import.

The Justice Department's lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C., seeks to prevent the merger and to continue competition between the firms.

Bill Baer, the assistant attorney general for the department's antitrust division, says ABI would be able to increase beer prices to U.S. consumers if the merger were to go through.
