One of our ninjas has sent us teardown pictures giving us the first look at the internals of an iPhone 5. While there are some similarities to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, one of the most obvious differences is the unibody design and the return to a front-opening assembly like the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

The return to a construction that opens from the front may allow Apple to once again offer screen replacements on cracked displays.

From the pictures we can tell the display panel is all one assembly as opposed to two separate layers which were found in the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, what appears to be a larger battery, the rear facing camera, and the shields that cover the cables on the logic board. The metal frame is unibody which means the back and frame will most likely have to be replaced as one piece.

Think of it this way, if you're going to crack your phone, it's better to drop it face down this time around instead of cracking the back.
